O objetivo principal do projeto é melhorar a saúde, desenvolvimento e a qualidade de vida de crianças e adultos que nasceram prematuros ( < 32 semanas) ou com peso reduzido ( < 1500g). Estes constituem menos de 2% de todos os nascimentos na Europa; no entanto, são a causa de metade das mortes perinatais ou infantis, e mais de um terço dos orçamentos relacionados com a saúde e educação das crianças.
