About Project

Agenda Mobilizadora da Fileira das Tecnologias de Produção para a Reindustrialização

Development of new methodologies, strategies, tools and approaches that will converge in new products, services and innovative systems (production technologies), aligned with the challenges of the circular economy and based on ensuring sustainability, ensuring significant levels of impact, from the start, in this sector and in the most diverse industrial sectors. It incorporates a coherent set of interventions, aimed at the development of products-systems-services, ecosystems of tools and applications, methodologies and strategies, supported by new digitization paradigms, aiming at: Capacity building for the development of new sustainable products (production systems and components). Advanced integration and management of sustainable production systems, zero defects - zero impacts environmental Symbiotic management of production ecosystems and supply chains in a circular context And the implementation of circular and sustainable approaches in manufacturing industry. It results from the action program of the PRODUTECH cluster and from the clustering movement at FTP, comprising core developments of the strategic axis “Mobilization for frontier R&D+I”.

Luís Miguel Moreira Guardão

I’m a Senior Researcher and Project Manager at INESC TEC. I started my work at this institution back in 1992 as a software developer and systems & database administrator. Soon, in 1995, I embraced the project manager role and have since then led a large number of projects in multiple domains (Operations Management, Internal Logistics, Automation, Knowledge Management, Systems Architecture &  Integration, Planning & Scheduling, Benchmarking & Business Intelligence) and industries (Shoe, textile, metal tooling, Civil Construction, Chemical, Architecture, Government, Universities).

I hold a Degree in Electronics and Telecommunications by the University of Aveiro and postgraduates degrees in Management (by EGP-UP) and Medical Informatics (by the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Sciences of UP).

My current main research area of interest at INESC TEC is Integrated Planning & Scheduling in the context of Industry 4.0.

António José Galrão Ramos

António Galrão Ramos has a M.Sc. degree in Logistics by the Porto Business School, University of Porto, Portugal and a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, by the University of Porto. He is an Associate Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP) and a researcher at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC TEC). He worked in multinational companies in Project Management, Operations and Logistics Management for over 10 years.

His main area of scientific activity is Operations Research and Management Science. Within Operations Research the main application area are the 3D Cutting and Packing Problems, while from the techniques viewpoint the research is centred in the use and development of metaheuristics approaches that integrate safety and logistics constraints, so that the solutions can be of practical use.

He regularly publishes the results of his research in the main operations research and management science international scientific journals and keeps a frequent activity in consultancy with private companies.

During his academic career he has mainly taught courses on Operations Research, Logistics, Warehouse and Inventory Management and Operations Management. He has served as Member of the Technical-Scientific Council of ISEP and he is now Vice-director of the BSc Program in Automotive Engineering at ISEP.

Manuel Fernando dos Santos Silva

M. F. Silva was born in April 11, 1970. He graduated, received the MSc. and the PhD. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal, in 1993, 1997 and 2005, respectively. Presently he is Coordinator Professor at the Institute of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, Department of Electrical Engineering, and Senior Researcher at the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems of INESC TEC. He is the author or more than 150 publications in international journals and conferences and has been involved in several R&D projects. He has also been actively involved in the organization of several international conferences, belongs to the CLAWAR Association Management Team and was President of the Portuguese Robotics Society. His research focuses on modelling, simulation, industrial robotics, mobile robotics, biological inspired robotics, and education in engineering.

Rui Lopes Campos

Rui Campos has a PhD degree in Electrical and Computers Engineering in 2011, from University of Porto. Currently, he leads the “Wireless Networks” research area (http://win.inescporto.pt) of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia consisting of 30 researchers, and he is an IEEE Senior Member. He has coordinated several research projects, including: SIMBED in Fed4FIRE+ Open Call 3, UGREEN, BLUECOM+, MareCom, MTGrid, the WiFIX action approved in CONFINE Open Call 1, Mare-Fi, Under-Fi, ReCoop, and HiperWireless. Rui Campos has participated in several research projects, including the following European projects: H2020 Fed4FIRE+, H2020 RAWFIE, FP7 SUNNY, FP7 CONFINE, FP6 Ambient Networks Phase 1, and FP6 Ambient Networks Phase 2. His research interests include medium access control, radio resource management, mobility management, and network auto-configuration in emerging wireless networks, with special focus on flying networks, maritime networks, and underwater networks.

Enterprise Systems Engineering

The research carried out at the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) has a direct impact on industrial transformation, developing sustainable, resilient, and human-centred solutions to address the challenges of the digital and green transitions. Through a co-creation and development approach with scientific and industrial partners, CESE contributes to improve organisational capabilities and driving systemic innovation in complex industrial contexts. As a multidisciplinary research centre, CESE bridges science and practice in the field of Systems Engineering, focusing on value creation within industrial ecosystems. This mission is structured around five research lines that define CESE scientific and technological expertise: Manufacturing Systems Design and Management, Supply Chain and Collaborative Networks Management, Architectures and Industrial Information Systems, Technology Management in Industry, Transportation and Logistics.

Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support

Our Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) conducts research in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Modelling. These areas are cross-cutting and apply to all sectors of society and the economy. The vast amounts of data being collected, alongside the ubiquity of digitalisation and sensorisation, are increasingly creating opportunities and challenges for automating decision support. The combination of Machine Learning and complex models is transforming the economy, healthcare, justice, industry, science, public administration, and education. This encourages us to invest in diverse technological and scientific approaches and perspectives. Our overarching strategy is to explore the flow and diversification of data, and to invest in research lines that will lead to the development of applied Artificial Intelligence foundations and models that are responsible and human centred.
