Filipe Joel Soares

Filipe Joel Soares received the Physics degree (five-year course) from the Faculty of Sciences and an Electrical Engineering (Renewable Energies) Postgrad from Porto University, Porto, Portugal, in 2004 and 2007, respectively. He also received the Ph.D. degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, in the MIT|Portugal Program, from Porto University, Porto, Portugal, in 2012.

Currently he is a Senior Researcher in the Centre for Power and Energy Systems of INESC Porto and Assistant Professor in the Lusophone University of Porto. His research activity is directed towards the integration of distributed energy resources (i.e. controllable loads, electric vehicles, renewable energy sources and stationary storage) in distribution grids, as well as to the development of advanced algorithms and functionalities for their management and participation in electricity markets.

He is author of more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences.

 

António Coelho
António Coelho

António Coelho is a senior researcher at INESC TEC and coordinates the Computer Graphics and Virtual environments area of the HUMANISE.

He is actively involved in several research projects (from H2020 European projects to I&DT projects with the industry) and PhD supervisions, focused in the areas of Computer Graphics (Virtual Reality and Procedural Modeling), Serious Games (Procedural Content Generation, Mobile Gaming and Games-based Learning) and Geospatial Systems (Location-based Systems and Spatial Databases). 

He is also Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto where he teaches in the areas of Computer Graphics, Programming and Digital Games. He is the director of the Doctoral Program in Digital Media at the University of Porto and academic leader of the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH).

Human-Centered Computing and Information Science

The Centre for Human-Centered Computing and Information Science (HumanISE) brings together engineers, scientists, and designers with expertise in Human-Centred Computing (HCC), Computer Science (CS), and Information Science (IS). Interdisciplinarity, one of the Centre’s defining features, fosters the development of software systems, methods, and tools designed to empower individuals and their communities. The excellence and impact of HumanISE’s research, innovation, and consultancy activities allow addressing increasingly complex, volatile, heterogeneous, ambiguous, and uncertain challenges, while ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and organisational standards and frameworks. Value transfer is achieved through close collaboration with academia and industry partners. HumanISE’s core research areas include Human-Computer Interaction; Computer Graphics and Interactive Digital Media; Information Management and Information Systems; Software Engineering; and Large-Scale and Special-Purpose Computing Systems, Languages, and Tools; as well as Computing for Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems. HumanISE also explores innovation domains like Earth, Ocean and Space Sciences; Personalised Health Research; Geospatial Information Systems Engineering; and Applied Information Systems and Computing.

Power and Energy Systems

INESC TEC’s main actor in the energy field is the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), which falls within the Cluster Energy Systems. We at CPES are internationally recognised for our expertise in the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation, storage, smart grids and areas traditionally associated with the planning and operation of power systems. The high level of expertise developed has allowed our experts at CPES to take on key roles in important EU projects as part of the successive framework programmes that led to notable scientific and technical advances with considerable impact on industry. This has led to contracts for development and consultancy with companies manufacturing equipment and with generation, transmission and distribution companies, regulators, government agencies and investors in Europe, South America, the United States of America and Africa. At CPES, we address the following main research areas: Decision Making, Optimisation and Computational Intelligence, Forecasting, Static and Dynamic analysis of Energy Grids, Reliability, Power Electronics.
