Gil Silva Sampaio
I have an Integrated Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, obtained in 2012. After graduation, I gained industrial experience in the IT consulting sector, followed by a scholarship to develop graphical interfaces for the Operational Research Group of the Faculty of Economics.
In 2014, I joined the Centre for Power Systems (CPES) of INESC TEC, where I focused on the development of advanced tools for the monitoring and control of electrical distribution networks. In addition, in 2015 I enrolled in MIT Portugal's Ph.D. programme in Sustainable Energy Systems.
My work mainly revolves around improving traditional analytical approaches and leveraging large amounts of data to create innovative, data-driven solutions. At the intersection of technology, research and sustainability, my research and experience have made tangible contributions in real-world environments faced by energy distribution companies. This has been demonstrated through consulting services provided to private entities, as well as active involvement in European pilot projects.

Fábio André Coelho
Fábio Coelho (Male, PhD) is currently a senior researcher of HASLab, one of INESC TEC's research units. He holds a PhD in Computer Science, in the context of the MAP-i Doctoral Programme, from the universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto (Portugal). His research is focused on cloud HTAP databases, cloud computing, distributed systems, P2P/ledger based systems and benchmarking. He has several international publications in top-tier conferences, such as SRDS, DAIS and ICPE. He participated in several national and EU projects such as CoherentPaaS, LeanBigData, CloudDBAppliance and Integrid. Currently he works closely with the Power and Energy Centre of INESC TEC in the provisioning of ICT solutions for coordination and distributed communication.

High-Assurance Software
At the High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), we improve practice through theory, creating and implementing software that goes beyond mere functionality: we ensure it is correct, resilient, and secure against failures and attacks. Our team of researchers, scientists, and engineers has proven expertise in software engineering, developing methods and tools to design and integrate robust software; in distributed systems, exploring distribution and replication to ensure scalability and reliability; and in information security, addressing cybersecurity challenges and improving systems with advanced, secure cryptographic protocols, thus minimising vulnerabilities. With a multidisciplinary approach supported by solid theoretical principles, we develop innovative solutions for critical software, secure cloud infrastructures, and privacy-aware big data management, driving scientific advancement, innovation, and high-level consultancy. In addition, we complement our core expertise with work in human-computer interaction, programming languages, computational mathematics, and quantum computing - because we believe the future of trustworthy software is built on knowledge and innovation.

Power and Energy Systems
INESC TEC’s main actor in the energy field is the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), which falls within the Cluster Energy Systems. We at CPES are internationally recognised for our expertise in the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation, storage, smart grids and areas traditionally associated with the planning and operation of power systems. The high level of expertise developed has allowed our experts at CPES to take on key roles in important EU projects as part of the successive framework programmes that led to notable scientific and technical advances with considerable impact on industry. This has led to contracts for development and consultancy with companies manufacturing equipment and with generation, transmission and distribution companies, regulators, government agencies and investors in Europe, South America, the United States of America and Africa. At CPES, we address the following main research areas: Decision Making, Optimisation and Computational Intelligence, Forecasting, Static and Dynamic analysis of Energy Grids, Reliability, Power Electronics.
