Tiago André Soares

Tiago Soares received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the School of Engineering of Polytechnic Institute of Porto, Porto, Portugal (ISEP) in 2013 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2017. He is currently a Researcher at INESC TEC and Assistant Guest Professor at the ISEP/IPP. He is a member of the IEEE, of the Portuguese Engineering Association and of the SMART4GRIDS research group at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). He has coordinated and been involved in several projects addressing energy markets, distributed generation, energy resources management and optimization, optimization under uncertainty, energy communities, energy efficiency and future power systems. He has also authored and co-authored over 60 articles published in international energy journals and conferences.

Enhancing smart GRIDs for sustainability

TDX-ASSIST

This project aims to design and develop novel Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and techniques that facilitate scalable and secure information systems and data exchange between Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Distribution System Operator (DSO). The three novel aspects of ICT tools and techniques to be developed in the project are: scalability – ability to deal with new users and increasingly larger volumes of information and data; security – protection against external threats and attacks; and interoperability – information exchange and communications based on existing and emerging international smart grid ICT standards.

Power and Energy Systems

INESC TEC’s main actor in the energy field is the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), which falls within the Cluster Energy Systems. We at CPES are internationally recognised for our expertise in the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation, storage, smart grids and areas traditionally associated with the planning and operation of power systems. The high level of expertise developed has allowed our experts at CPES to take on key roles in important EU projects as part of the successive framework programmes that led to notable scientific and technical advances with considerable impact on industry. This has led to contracts for development and consultancy with companies manufacturing equipment and with generation, transmission and distribution companies, regulators, government agencies and investors in Europe, South America, the United States of America and Africa. At CPES, we address the following main research areas: Decision Making, Optimisation and Computational Intelligence, Forecasting, Static and Dynamic analysis of Energy Grids, Reliability, Power Electronics.
