About Project

Global-leading smart manufacturing through digital platforms, cross-cutting features and skilled workforce

The ConnectedFactories 2 project will develop a common and structured understanding of key enablers and cross-cutting factors concerning the deployment of digital technologies in manufacturing. It will identify pathways to the industrial take-up of digital technologies and digital platforms by considering legacy systems, industrial requirements and challenges. Moreover, it will match skills transfer offering with skills demand across Europe. Using state-of-the-art case studies it will show how key enablers and cross-cutting factors are addressed along those pathways. The project will engage with research and industrial actors in both European and local ecosystems, not only to validate findings and results, but also to generate a broad awareness about the key enablers and cross-cutting factors, about the pathways and in particular about inspiring cases that include SMEs.

Vasco Bernardo Teles

Vasco Figueiredo Teles (Porto, Portugal, 1977) is a Ph.D. by the MIT Portugal Program in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing with the theme of technology planning and exploitation. He has a background in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering - University of Porto (FEUP).

He currently works in technology strategy and licensing at INESC TEC. He has industrial and scientific experience in advanced manufacturing at national and European levels, where he has developed several strategic projects and has been an invited expert in innovation and public policy initiatives.

Among others, he previously worked with PRODUTECH, the Portuguese cluster for production technologies where e.g. he coordinated the cluster’s strategy and technology roadmapping, and with Sonae, the largest Portuguese retailer, developing innovative projects in operations, e-commerce, and tourism, and where he was a co-founder of the Innovation Department.

Enterprise Systems Engineering

The research carried out at the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) has a direct impact on industrial transformation, developing sustainable, resilient, and human-centred solutions to address the challenges of the digital and green transitions. Through a co-creation and development approach with scientific and industrial partners, CESE contributes to improve organisational capabilities and driving systemic innovation in complex industrial contexts. As a multidisciplinary research centre, CESE bridges science and practice in the field of Systems Engineering, focusing on value creation within industrial ecosystems. This mission is structured around five research lines that define CESE scientific and technological expertise: Manufacturing Systems Design and Management, Supply Chain and Collaborative Networks Management, Architectures and Industrial Information Systems, Technology Management in Industry, Transportation and Logistics.
