About

We promote a market-pull model in R&D activities, focused on the challenges of the oceans and deep waters, with a view to fostering a more sustainable Blue Economy. These activities lead to the development of innovative robotic solutions capable of operating in complex environments and performing multiple tasks, such as data collection, monitoring, mapping, surveillance, and intervention. These solutions are multidisciplinary and cover both established industries—such as aquaculture, fisheries, and ports—and emerging ones, including autonomous ships, deep-sea mining, and offshore renewable energy.

Challenges

Our main challenge is to bring together institutions, companies, and R&D&I associations to increase synergies and critical mass, thereby addressing the current challenges related to the Blue Economy. We aim to create a Network of Excellence in Ocean Engineering, capable of driving the industries that will play a leading role at the international level.

Value Proposition

The sea and the oceans are increasingly explored as strategic domains across multiple dimensions: economic, political and military, social, and environmental. We are a world-leading institution, capable of empowering the Blue Economy through sustainable approaches to the exploration of both living and non-living ocean resources. We aim to create and strengthen new services and ecosystems in areas such as ocean health maintenance activities, by contributing to the monitoring of biogeochemical variables, oil spill mitigation, among others.
