National laboratory tests electric vehicles
Portugal already has a laboratory to specifically test technological solutions for electric vehicles. This infrastructure is located at INESC Porto (the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto) and it was officially presented last week.

The Laboratory of Microgrids and Electric Vehicles makes it possible to test new ways of charging electric vehicle batteries, in conjunction with different companies – including Portuguese companies, thus validating devices and technology with potential for export.
At this moment, the laboratory is equipped with a set of smart inverter prototypes to control microgeneration (solar photovoltaic and micro wind power) and electric vehicle batteries (bidirectional) which can autonomously adapt to the needs and limitations of the power grid.
The project involved a 2.6 million Euro investment, funded by the FAI (Fundo de Apoio à Inovação – Innovation Support Fund) and by partners EDP Distribuição, Efacec, Logica and REN. The project was also supported by companies Contar and Galp Energia.
