x-Energy Lab – Smart Grids & Electric Vehicles
About

Smart grids, electric mobility, and energy management

At the X-Energy Lab, we aim to test and validate innovative solutions for the decarbonisation of the economy, focusing on their integration into power grids and on smart grids, electric mobility, and active consumption management.

At the same time, X-Energy serves as a hub for collaboration and education, welcoming external researchers and promoting knowledge dissemination through publications and the sharing of open data and code.

Location: INESC TEC headquarters.

Where we act

Strongly committed to the decarbonisation of the economy, the X-Energy Lab favours experimental testing and validation of the integration of innovative solutions into power grids, focusing on smart grids, electric mobility, and active consumption management. Recognised by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) as part of the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest, it provides the academic, scientific, and industrial communities testing and experimental validation capabilities in key innovation areas:

Microgrids, AC Distribution Networks and AC/DC Hybrid Networks

Electric Mobility

Automation and Protection Systems

Energy Storage

Interoperability and Standardisation

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins

Power Converter-Dominated Energy Systems

Green Hydrogen

What we offer
The x-Energy Lab provides a set of services to industry, academia and members of the scientific community:
