Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory

About

Technology innovation for complex environments and autonomous operations

We develop robots and autonomous systems for extreme environments, from the deep sea to flooded mines. Our solutions collect data, build maps, and carry out inspection and surveillance operations with precision, contributing to scientific, industrial, and environmental monitoring missions.

Location: Porto School of Engineering (ISEP) and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

Where we act

Our Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratories develop technology designed to operate in demanding environments, like the deep sea or near underwater infrastructures. We focus on autonomous navigation, cooperative multi-platform operations, sensing, mapping, communication, surveillance, and intervention. Our solutions enable data collection, inspection, mapping, and interaction with complex environments, supporting companies and institutions in their modernisation, internationalisation, and digital transition efforts. We believe that robotics play a key role in the sustainable exploration of marine resources and the protection of ecosystems. Alongside our R&D activities, we promote specialised training for human resources and advanced technical capacity-building programmes, actively contributing to the development of skills in the field of autonomous systems.

What we offer

The economic and social impact generated by the organisations we support is also one of the key missions of our infrastructure. We contribute to boosting the performance, competitiveness, and internationalisation of several national institutions through:

Equipments

Our infrastructures support the development, testing, and validation of technologies in both controlled and real-world environments; they’re available for internal use, as well as within the scope of collaboration endeavours with external entities:
