Laura Luciana Cavalcante
I was born in Porto Velho, Brazil, and received the Mathematics (Educational) five-years degree in 2007, the MSc degree in Mathematical Engineering in 2008, and obtained my PhD degree in Applied Mathematics in 2014, both from the Faculty of Sciences from the University of Porto (FCUP), Portugal. My PhD thesis focused on the modelling of extreme events, with special emphasis in the reduced-bias estimation of tail index and high order quantiles. Currently, I am a Senior Researcher at INESC TEC in its Center for Power and Energy Systems. My research interests include renewable energy forecasting, renewable integration, decision-making under risk, business analytics, statistical and optimization techniques, extreme values and machine learning. I have been involved in national and international projects, such as SusCity, Horizon 2020 UPGRID and Horizon 2020 InteGrid, in the development of renewable energy forecasting techniques. My current projects focuses on spatial aspects of renewable energy forecasting, optimal parameter optimization, probabilistic power forecasting, load and storage forecasting, price forecasting and energy analytics.
