
Alexandra Sofia Marques
Senior Researcher
Alexandra F. Marques holds a PhD in Forest Engineering and Management of Natural Resources (UTL, 2012), a Master in Operations Research (OR) (UL, 2005) and currently works in research and consultancy in Operations Management. Develops new technologies as well as new OR methods for supporting planning and decision-making, particularly concerning natural resources. Current projects tackle operations scheduling and resources assignment, control/simulation and re-planning; supply chain optimization; decision support systems; collaborative planning and knowledge management.
The research developed under an industrial framework, has been applied in many companies and public bodies in Portugal and abroad, including Europac Viana, Portucel Soporcel, Celbi Stora Enso, Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho, Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto, Direcção Geral das Florestas, Forestis, PT Comunicações, SONAECOM, CP, Alliance Health Care, Adira. Other working countries include Israel, Brazil, Chile and Canada.
Currently works as a researcher in the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit of INESC PORTO,. Coordinates the project FOCUS: Advances in Forestry Control and Automation Systems in Europe, is responsible for research activities of the project Productech-PTI (New Processes and new innovative technologies for the industry of production technology), co-coordinates the Cost Action FORSYS-Forest Management Decision Support Systems. Participates in several other RTD projects, including MOTIVE-Models for Adaptive forest management, ORCHESTRA-Orchestrating forest-related policy analysis in Europe.
Is the author of 25 research publications, including book chapters, articles in international journals and conference proceedings. Is also author or many technical as well as outreach publications.
