In the context of an organisation dedicated to research, technological development and innovation, such as INESC TEC, structured project management is a critical factor for the fulfilment of its mission, the effective use of resources, and the delivery of commitments undertaken with clients, partners, funding bodies and other stakeholders. The diversity, complexity and scale of the projects carried out at INESC TEC require consistent approaches, aligned with recognised project management best practices and institutional governance.
Within this framework, INESC TEC has established a Project Management Office (PMO) as a transversal support structure, with the mission of promoting an integrated, consistent and excellence-driven approach to project management across the Institute. The PMO operates in close collaboration with the R&D Centres and support services, contributing to the enhancement of organisational maturity and to efficiency in the management of the project portfolio.
The PMO’s main responsibilities include the definition and dissemination of project management methodologies, standards and tools, the support to planning, monitoring and reporting of the project portfolio, as well as the provision of technical and training support to project teams. In addition, the Office contributes to the continuous improvement of processes associated with the project life cycle, promoting transparency, consistency of information and informed decision-making at all management levels. In this way, the Office contributes to a more integrated governance of INESC TEC’s projects and the alignment between institutional strategy and its execution.
The Project Office is also responsible for developing and providing tools to support the management and control of projects and INESC TEC's overall activity (analytical accounting), promoting the strengthening of institutional information systems, especially in the areas of annual planning (initial and updates), budget control and remuneration scheme management.
