Problem

The agroforestry industry heavily relies on manual labor, which leads to inefficiencies, low profitability, and health issues for the workers due to poor ergonomics, such as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs. The main challenges faced by the industry include cost optimization, ensuring worker safety, and promoting their well-being. However, lack of real-time knowledge about worker activities, weather conditions, and physical exertion makes it difficult to address these challenges.


While agriculture undergoes digitalization for sustainability, technology mainly focuses on crop monitoring that relies on expensive image analysis or robotics, neglecting worker monitoring.


There is an opportunity to develop monitoring systems that can manage labor resources and support decision-making for worker productivity and well-being. This could help to address the critical gaps in the current agricultural technology.
