Energy
About
To support the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the energy sector, we actively engage with our partners through continuous dialogue and collaborative development of tailored technological solutions.
To this end, we establish partnerships with various stakeholders in the energy sector, including energy network operators, developers and operators of renewable energy production facilities, consumers (households, buildings, and industry), and service providers.
The scope of these partnerships is broad, encompassing joint participation in national and European funded projects with a focus on technological innovation and the demonstration of high technology readiness level (TRL) solutions. It also includes the provision of R&D services, studies and consultancy, advanced training, and technology transfer.
Challenges
One of the main challenges in the energy sector is responding to the decarbonisation of society and the economy. In this context, we focus on the Societal Challenges and Smart Specialisation Innovation Strategies defined by European Union policies, recognising that the energy sector is heavily impacted by digitalisation, decarbonisation, and distributed generation. We aim to follow a user-centred, market-based approach, involving the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources and electric mobility platforms, as well as the development of a smart grid infrastructure that demands the conceptualisation and development of disruptive solutions.
Value Proposition
We coordinate and leverage INESC TEC’s resources, expertise, and technologies to develop and transfer innovative solutions to industry that address the needs of the energy ecosystem. This is complemented by the provision of consultancy services and advanced training in the energy sector. Our strategy is built on over three decades of experience in power systems, with research outcomes transferred to network operators, electricity producers, service providers, and large energy consumers in Portugal, across Europe, and in countries such as the USA, Morocco, Mozambique, and Brazil.

Technologies

ArTuga
ArTuga - Augmented Reality Tag for Unmanned vision-Guided Aircraft – is an innovative multimodal fiducial marker for aerial robotics and others, developed to improve the precision landing capability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in harsh environments.

Beat Stress
Beat Stress enables the identification of necessary parameters in just one or a few heartbeats (ECG signal) and reduces the volume of data collected and processed. These two features make Beat Stress an ideal technology for integration into a wearable device and real-time usage, in line with the growing trend of healthcare wearables.

ACDC Cube
ACDC Cube has lower total volume and weight increased durability and equivalent reliability when compared with standard solutions such as the voltage source converter plus dual active bridge.
